2001-2004 Pathfinder Oil leak from Oil cooler seals

Posted: November 23, 2010 in Pathfinder

On many 2001-2004 Pathfinders there is usually a oil leak that comes from the oil cooler area. Before you do condemn it to be the oil cooler seals though, make sure it isn’t coming from a source above on the upper parts of the engine that would leak down below and mask itself as a oil cooler seal leak.

The fix:

There are two orange rubber seals that require replacement (circled in green). The bolt head that holds it together is 17mm in size and can be removed by using a wrench. Oil cooler seals can be picked out with a flat head screw driver. REMEMBER: Clean the grooves where the seals sit for proper sealing with a rag or a paper towel.

Parts cost is about $23.00 CAD at a dealer.
